DivX to MP4 Conversion Problems

Postby tommertron » 08 May 2007 18:56

Hi,

I'm having a problem transcoding from Xvid to Mpeg-4 or H.264 and having iTunes recognize the file. The file seems to convert okay, and can play in VLC player all the way through, but when I try to add the file to iTunes, it crashes.

I'm using the settings found here for my output format:

I'm also using Windows Vista. Not sure if that's an issue.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is there anyone out there who's on Vista and has successfully transcoded from xVid to h.264 and been able to import to iTunes?

Does the resulting file play properly in VLC and a few other players including QuickTime?

Yes, it plays in VLC properly. Haven't tried in quicktime - that's a good thought. I'll try when I get home.

For h.264 you may want to go to the doom9 forums to get an idea as to how to make x264 make compatible files for QuickTime. The audio must be MP4a (AAC) and the container should be MP4.

QuickTime does still support MP4v and MP4a in a MP4 container. So you may want to try this. Both XviD and DivX are a form of MPEG4 and how well they transcode to another MPEG4 format is unknown here. I do allot of MPEG2 to MP4v or h.264 and it works.
