Saving DVD chapters

Postby paul_1149 » 31 Mar 2007 22:55

Hi folks,

Is it possible to save DVD chapter divisions when capturing a DVD stream? I'm getting the stream pretty well using mp1v-mp3 encoding in a mpeg shell, but all the chapters are lost. I'm on Win XP.

Thanks,
p.

Well, you cannot save chapter in MPEG, since they don't have that option. MP4 should have.

A ha. that would explain that. I'm still lost, however.

I understand the maloska wrapper is supported, and that it might be better. Maybe I need to go to the stream forum.

Thanks,
p.

It is not possible to save Chapter markers using VLC for transcoding. However there are utilities to pull these references out of the DVD and add them to an to a MP4 container using mp4box.

See the doom9 forum or http://www.videohelp.com for more info...

An example of such a utility is ChapterXtractor.exe

Thanks much, DJ. I'll check those leads out.
