Wrong colours/no visual at all

Postby Zaru » 13 Mar 2007 00:53

I've reinstalled my OS and all the other stuff after a hard disk crash and installed only the most necessary things like forceware driver for my nvidia card, sound driver, some software, and of course vlc media player.

But, the thing is...despite vlc usually allowing me to watch most of the videos I have, suddenly... vlc and all other players only show sound and the video in its normal size. But no real output. Vlc doesn't show anything AT ALL, mplayer with klite pack at least shows darkened, wrong colours....
Windows media player and winamp only play the sound.

But that is unbearable. What can be the reason for not getting any usable video output?

Google video player is the only working thing, ironically.

I've done nothing else than with my last pc and back then it worked...

Try updating DirectX runtime. This should have been given to you with SP2.

How am I supposed to update dxruntime when sp2 should have already installed it?

Thanks but that didn't help at all, it's still the same.

I've downgraded my display driver to a 8x forceware version and now it works...

I tried installing the latest DirectX stuff just yesterday. no luck.
I tried installing Dx9 again today (after installing SP2 AGAIN), it says "DX9 is already installed"

bah...
how about trying to repair yourself stupid windows???

note: I did get VLC to work when I switched it to openGL mode... but it's slower than it should be (multiple video streams on second output of intel GMA950)

If you got VLC to work with another output module the issue is most likely your video drivers.

FYI You can only install DirectX once for any version (or do updates) and it can NOT be removed (or at least not easily).
