Playback problems

Postby thorsak » 20 Dec 2024 05:35

Hello:
...I'm experiencing UNEXPECTED playback issues never obtained BEFORE (!) and as stated by several members below : I'm running Windows 10 Home on PC, and has made NO SYSTEM and VLC-settings changes or experienced this ABNORMAL playback consisting of continuous 3-seconds staggering interruptions of the playback of a .mid-file ...
Any suggestions to check out in my troubleshooting this problem ...?!? :?

Are other kind of audio files playing fine ? Maybe try with another SoundFont file.

If it doesn't help then try another audio output module:

Don't forget to save the preferences and restart VLC after the changes.

Hi Lotesdelere:
...and thanks for your suggestion: I haven't tried OTHER AUDIO FILES but I usually try OTHER MIDI-PLAYERS to playback the SAME FILE/song and they ALL play the SAME FILE just perfect EXCEPT VLC (!) so I assume it is something SPECIFIC/RELATED to setting of the VLC-Player don't you think ...? NOTE: ...I've noted that once -in-awhile, VLC-Player looks to be too sensitive to 'some abnormalities' during a playback BUT I have correct CODE (Soundfont?) for MIDI setup/songs in 'PREFERENCES' which usually provides flawless playback ...
- Would like your follow up reply please ...-thanks-Tony H.

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, keep the messages window open during the whole process and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of your original problematic file to WeTransfer.com or Disroot.org and then post the link to the file here.

Hi Lotesdelere:
...and thanks for your advice: I was just going to try your guideline steps above BUT have decided today 1st ('fresh') restarting Windows and the VLC-Player and ...the VLC-playback has started NORMALLY without any problems ...! I was thinking for some time about this, and would like to have your opinion, if it is possible that after use some OTHER MIDI-Player does NOT HANG ON and may not interfere when I THEN open the VLC-Player ...is it a known issue (?), and if yes - how could I prevent this happening again (in the future) by making some VLC-setting which would prevent this issue ...?
Your suggestion related to this my question would be greatly appreciated! ...Tony H.

Hi Lotesdelere - Merry Christmas!:
Unfortunately, I checked (again!) the VLC-performance BUT the "good news" above had a short life: the playback is again interrupted by short audio crackles (approx 2-3 sec long) when I've restarted the VLC AFTER only-ONE good run of the Player, then running the OTHER Players, and then back to VLC-Player which was then malfunctioning again! (I always started EACH Player by a complete closing and 'clean restart' EACH Player). I've also checked the 'Preferences' settings, and the SoundFont is the same as I had installed BEFORE I've experienced this latest abnormalities of VLC-Player during MIDI-playback - here are more details:
SoundFont installed in 'FluidSynth' Audio-CODEC is '8mbgm_plus13.sf2', and by the way my VLC-Player is of the most updated Version 3.0.20 Vetinary.
So: is there any 'better' CODEC available you could recommend OR should I still try your following previous suggestion (?): 'Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, keep the messages window open during the whole process and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long' ...?
As always - your further follow up would be greatly appreciated - thanks!
P.S.: by the way, I have checked my 3 OTHER most reliable MIDI-Players, and they ALL work perfectly steady - no interaction/interference by the malfunctioning VLC-Player!
