I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 11.10 and installed VLC, version 1.1.12.

I went into Preferences and set up logging, but I can't get it to actually do any logging. I've tried letting VLC create the log file and I've tried setting up the log file for VLC using touch, always making sure it has adequate permissions, but neither seem to work.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

You might need to activate logger module in Interface section.
