UPnP files only show properly after being opened manually

I'm using UPnP Inspector, and that sees everything on my network perfectly.
With VLC, I can see my PS3 media server under the playlist, under local network, under UPnP. I see the top level. Now the funny stuff:
All the folders in UPnP show as playable files, and don't play.
If I go to the main VLC window and right click and do "Open Media" and then "Open Network" and then I paste the URL for a file (that I get from UPnP Inspector) it plays perfectly. And after some time and reboots, eventually the folder for that file shows up in Playlist > Local Network > UPnP.
However all the other folders on my server show as actual music files, and are of course unplayable. Until I do the stuff in the previous paragraph for a particular file in a directory, and then that folder will eventually appear after vlc is restarted few times.
To help explain, below is a pic. On the left is UPnP Inspector and you can properly see all the directories. On the right is VLC's media browser, and you can see 5 Springsteen albums (randomly chosen and loaded manually as described above, so they aren't in order) properly loaded as folders, but then you can see a long list below those, started with "Born to Run", that are not properly loading as folders.
So apparently something is a bit off with the UPnP discovery. Is there a way to reset the discovery and have it do it again? I have a gigantic library... adding the folders one at a time isn't going to work...
Thank you,
Carl
