Command Line Option --dshow-video-input?

I am trying to set the video input source that my DVR card uses, it's the composite channel and the value is 1, but vlc is giving an error when I try the following command:
The error is:
The player works if I leave off the --dshow option, but since it's defaulting to value 0 nothing is displayed. vlc works fine if I do Open Capture Device manually and set Input to 1 in the Advanced Options.
Any ideas on how to get --dshow to work? I found the info at http://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_command-line_help
Thanks,
