Can I use VLC in ubuntu

Hi guys,
I am new in this community and do not know much about this. I have come there with a view to take assistance to use vlc player in my ubuntu. But still now I don't know anything about this.Will it work properly? I can't decide from where I should start. Anyone help me please.

Sure you can.

Follow these steps: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-ubuntu.html

1. Add PPA to your system (sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lucid-bleed/ppa)
2. Update packages (sudo apt-get update)
3. Install VLC (sudo apt-get install vlc vlc-plugin-pulse mozilla-plugin-vlc)

Then you can use it from applications menu (multimedia category) or directly from command line (just type vlc)
