VLC media player won't play DVDs in Ubuntu Linux 11.04

Hello,

I just installed Ubuntu Linux 11.04 (inside Windows Vista using Wubi) and VLC media player version 1.1.9, and I just tried to play a DVD on it, only to find that it won't play! VLC won't even display any sort of error message -- it just sits there, waiting for my next command. What's the issue here?

Did you select the DVD from the playlist or from the disc open dialog? Maybe Wubi does not detect the DVD drive?

Nope, once I've gotten past the screen where I can choose to boot either Windows Vista or Ubuntu, and once I have booted Ubuntu and inserted the DVD, the DVD apparently mounts correctly and shows up on my Ubuntu desktop, and also launches VLC media player. After that, VLC media player looks like it wants to start playing my DVD, but then it suddenly just gives up, and awaits my next command.

You probably did not install dvdcss. VLC cannot decipher the DVD.

Got it working! I followed some steps on this forum post:

and now VLC media player handles my DVD correctly.

Thanks for the help.
