VLC Media Player blocking

I compiled the source code of VLC-1.1.9 on Ubuntu 10.04 and I tried to install it installs but it is blocked when I start it does not work
I delete (its icon remains on the menu after deleting it) and I reinstall it from synaptic packages
but the problem is the same
its icon there but it is not working, I have not understood where the problem is I need your help
