VLC 1.1.5 on Ubuntu Lucid

Well, after the release of 1.1.5 VLC was removed from my system , and trying to re-install from the rep given on the main page resulted in errors... I tried on a live USb installation, with the same result. I managed to install without a problem using this rep though:
To install in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynyx enter in the terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:n-muench/vlc2
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install vlc mozilla-plugin-vlc

I have no problems at the moment...
I write this post with two reasons
To help another lost soul like me, it took me hours to work it out
To ask the main page to be updated, or get an answer why I had these problems...

Thank You so much for this @deckoff!! I am a relative ex-windoze newbie I am one of those lost souls who had had several attempts at upgrading my version.

As one who still relies mainly on graphical solutions to any problems it was disappointing that neither Ubuntu nor VLC offers any graphical solution to upgrading to v1.1.5, especially when problems are known to exist with the older version. In particular, the lack of instruction on how to input commands for a manual upgrade is very poor form. (All this website says is "VLC version 1.0.6 in Ubuntu 10.04 is out-of-date. We recommend you install VLC 1.1.x manually".)

While not entirely afraid of using terminal commands to achieve solutions I am still confused by it all. Having your commands to copy and paste made the upgrade seem simple.

Thanks again for putting this out there.

Not much we can do. If Ubuntu would not include VLC at all, we could relatively easily provide our own version on the VideoLAN.org website. But overriding a package provided by the distribution is a bad idea. You can find plenty of users complaining about broken or abandoned VLC PPA on this very forum.

It's much safer to update to the latest Ubuntu (currently 10.10) which usually includes a recent VLC version.

Well, we're "bleeding-edge" vidiots". We can test and debug, too. Where's the "official" Ubuntu (not Intrepid! that's so 2008!) Lucid and up PPA?
The "-muench/vlc2" wanted to update my Audacity and forced a "partial Upgrade". We all know that's a NO-NO!

If not, where's the .deb file for the latest 1.1.15?

So official PPA is on the videolan account on Launchpad. But I think it requires Ubuntu 10.10. And being automatically updated it is not reliable.
