Video choppy since 1.1.4

I am running VLC on a netbook-type device (Intel Atom N270, 1GB RAM, Intel 945GME, Ubuntu).

Since compiling 1.1.4 my video playback has become choppy and unwatchable. If I downgrade to 1.1.2 then everything is fine and smooth. Looking at the debug output I can see that 1.1.4 is generating a lot of this type of error message:

Code: Select all

main video output warning: late picture skipped (15876 > -95)
The output of 1.1.2 does not have any of these error messages. Also, the CPU usage of X jumps up from 6% to 30% in 1.1.4.

I have captured the debug output of VLC in both conditions and filed a bug report with the debug files attached: http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/4203

Does anyone else experience a similar problem with 1.1.4?

And does not work fine here. I was experiencing the same problem on my dell notebook. Video is choppy, even unwatchable when i'm on battery, same error. Currently downgraded to 1.1.2 - everything works smoothly.

So durzagoth -yeah, I have same problem here but I were unable to find any workarounds.

as you said version 1.1.2 solve your problem. but version 1.1.2 uses the same library files that version 1.1.4 uses no change in my code for version 1.1.2 the problem is steel there. version 1.1.2 uses library libvlc.so.5 the version of this lib is same for version 1.1.4 i dont think downgrade will solve this problem

There is a work around for this X.Org bug in VLC 1.1.5.
