VLC 1.1 --no-video-deco doesn't work!!!

Postby jpspereira » 29 Jul 2010 15:53

I'm using VLC 1.1 and Ubuntu Linux 10.04.

And when I am using command to do not use window decoration with --no-video-deco... doesn't work!

I've tried in windows and works fine.

Any idea?
Thx

It's not implemented on Linux.

Do you have any idea about when it would be implemented?

No, we don't have any idea when someone will send a patch for that.

That are really very bad news. For one of my projects I used VLC 1.0.5 and there was no problem with --no-video-deco under Linux so far. So I was satisfied when I heard that VLC 1.1 comes out, but then at first the oldrc interface did no longer work with the rc-host flag and now this problem! Both problems I can confirm on Ubuntu 10.04 and openSuse 11.3. It is really no good way when future versions loose some basic functionalities. Unfortunately, this makes it impossible for me to use VLC any longer in my project, since I needed it for overlaying some video (of course without borders). Am I right that there is no other possibility than changing the video player? Or is there another way, e.g., to embed VLC into some borderless window, or to compile VLC myself using some special flags or so? I know that with MPLAYER -noborder there is no such problem, but in my last comparison between VLC and MPLAYER I tended to VLC... Sorry, this post shouldn't belittle your great work on the VLC player, but I am really disappointed.

--drawable-xid xxx will draw the video within an existing window. If you can create a window without borders, you're done. And rc-host is supposed to work fine with oldrc; no changes from 1.0 there.
