can't play h264 video file in vlc

I successfully built my VLC player from git but I can't play h264 videos. My codecs seem to be intact. I don't know what I did wrong. Could there be something missing when i configured my vlc? I used the following:

./configure --enable-x11 --enable-xvideo --enable-sdl --enable-avcodec --enable-avformat --enable-swscale --enable-mad --enable-libdvbpsi --enable-a52 --enable-libmpeg2 --enable-dvdnav --enable-faad --enable-vorbis --enable-ogg --enable-theora --enable-faac --enable-mkv --enable-freetype --enable-fribidi --enable-speex --enable-flac --enable-live555 --with-live555-tree=/usr/lib/live --enable-skins --enable-skins2 --enable-alsa --enable-qt4 --enable-ncurses --enable-release --enable-debug

Thanks.

main libvlc debug: libvlc was configured with ./configure '--enable-x11' '--enable-xvideo' '--disable-gtk' '--enable-sdl' '--enable-avcodec' '--enable-avformat' '--enable-swscale' '--enable-mad' '--enable-libdvbpsi' '--enable-a52' '--enable-libmpeg2' '--enable-dvdnav' '--enable-faad' '--enable-vorbis' '--enable-ogg' '--enable-theora' '--enable-faac' '--enable-mkv' '--enable-freetype' '--enable-fribidi' '--enable-speex' '--enable-flac' '--enable-live555' '--with-live555-tree=/usr/lib/live' '--enable-skins' '--enable-skins2' '--enable-alsa' '--disable-kde' '--enable-qt4' '--enable-ncurses' '--enable-release' '--enable-ffmpeg'

I had a similar problem some time ago - you could try this: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/3161

Do you build VLC against a recent version of ffmpeg? (or is ffmpeg built with h264 support?)
