How to install VLC on CentOS 5.4

Hi,

I'm trying to install VLC on CentOS 5.4. I have enabled EPEL repository but it contains an older VLC version.
So I would like to install VLC from source code but I get this error

What is the best solution --disable-nls --disable-mozilla and
be sure to not use LibVLC from other applications/wrappers or install newer version of update the
glibc run-time ?

glibc 2.9 or later is recommended for VLC.

My distribution CentOS 5.4 has 2.5-2.7 glibc...I think that I can't update him. So I can't install VLC

I can installed it using RPMforge, just update your repository to RPMforge and run yum install vlc.

hi all,
I use RPMforge to have 0.9.9a for those versions on CentOS 5.4,just run yum install vlc!
It is ok ,besides transcoding to mp2v.
command as:
cvlc -vvv /home/provideo/Spider-man_3_trailer_720p.mpg --sout '#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=4096,scale=1,fps=25,acodec=mpga,ab=128,channels=2,venc=ffmpeg{keyint=40,hurry-up=4,deinterlace,vt=800000}}:duplicate{dst=std{access=udp,mux=ts,url=192.168.0.39:1234}}'

I get this error:

It is very strange,I can transcode to mp4v and h264 and so on. Why it clue to that it don't find ffmpeg? I just run yum install vlc,and I notice ffmpeg installed.

ATrpms has always the lastest version of vlc for Rhel5/CentOS.

Version 1.0.6 is available here:
