VLC 1.0.2 Ubuntu Karmic 9.10
If anyone doesn't mind helping. I'm completely new to Ubuntu. Downloaded VLC through software center. All the menu's and everything are in Russian, I want English.

Tried Synaptics Manger> sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales. But I don't what to do after I find the file.

I can't read the Russian menus to find where to change Language through the Interface Settings.

Just want an English VLC player. Please help.

You might want to Fully Uninstall and then Reinstall through Synaptic

During the process ensure you check the box "delete preferences and cache"
When you re install ensure English is your chosen language

VLC uses the language configured by the distribution automatically. There is no language configuration in VLC on Linux.

I found a simple trick that you can use.
I used this trick to change Gimp's interface to English.

On your menu bar go to System -> preference -> Main menu

Select Music and Video category and then VLC media player
Select Attribute(P)

in Command Section you'll see vlc %U

change that line to env LANGUAGE=en vlc %U

That'll fix menu to English.
