1.0.4 says it is 1.0.2 ?

Postby kombucha » 12 Jan 2010 22:47

I have attempted to install 1.0.4 onto Karma K/9.10 several times, both from GetDeb/apturl, and also with dpkg using the vlc-nox_1.0.4-1~getdeb1_amd64.deb package.

Each time, vlc --version says this:
VLC media player 1.0.2 Goldeneye
VLC version 1.0.2 Goldeneye
Compiled by buildd@yellow.buildd
Compiler: gcc version 4.4.1 (Ubuntu 4.4.1-4ubuntu8)

I tried upgrading, tried dist-upgrade, removed, purged and otherwise tried to figure out why 1.0.4 thinks it is 1.0.2 to no avail., and would appreciate any insight that could be gleaned here.

I've also poked around videolan.org, and though I have uncovered a ridiculous amount of cruft, broken links and information that is out of date by years, I am still at a loss to explain this...

Never used getdeb but it would certainly appear you haven't added it your sources properly so all you're doing is re-installing the karmic repo version (search vlc on synaptic and see what the avail. ver. is
Possibly have a read

Code: Select all

dpkg -l "*vlc*"
Should show the reason of the problem
