How to install VLC on Ubuntu 8.10?

Postby dealrocker » 12 Jan 2010 13:08

My friend recently installed Ubuntu 8.10 on his laptop and now he want to install VLC media player. But, he doesn't know how to perform this task. Wondering does anyone provide the step by step instructions to install VLC on Ubuntu 8.10.

Thanks in advance.

Start Synaptic, enable the Universe and Multiverse repository and install the "vlc" package. I think the videolan.org website instructions are quite clear.

Also I believe Ubuntu is *meant* to be updated as it is released, unless you are running LTS.

So if he is running 8.10, he might want to update to Karma before installing more software. It's just a cleaner upgrade path.
