help fixing a broken install

Postby fmartins » 05 Oct 2009 08:52

Hi,
I have vlc 0.9.9a in ubuntu 9.04 and when I go to this radio stream http://www.rfm.pt/live/streamnew_rfm.asx it complains of missing wma2 codec. However I have a similar install in another PC which works well. I have also tried vlc 1... from the PPA but it's the same.

I suspect it was an install of openshot that broke codecs installation but after removal it's the same. So I was wondering which libraries are below vlc that I could reinstall. What elese could I do to pinpoint/fix this problem?

TIA,
Fernando

Thanks for the help. Reinstalling those did not fix the problem. However I noticed that libavutil is installed twice:

- libavutil-unstripped-50
- libavutil-unstripped-49

whereas in the other computer only -49 is installed. So I wonder whether -50 is incompatible with vlc.

When I try to remove -50, synaptic asks for removal of a lot of files, including vlc. I'm not happy to do since I might mess up even more with the system.

What would you advice to do?

no, I get (in green)

Code: Select all

avcodec FFmpeg audio/video decoder avcodec FFmpeg audio/video encoder avcodec FFmpeg deinterlace video filter
I ran vlc -v 2 from the command line with the stream and I got (tail of it):

Code: Select all

Hi,

I was told in the ubuntu forum that indeed openshot has borked ffmpeg libraries. I'll try the solution out and report back.

Indeed it works, see thread:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1281367

Thanks for your help!
