Timeshifting in RC1

Postby wolfen69 » 18 May 2009 08:56

I am using vlc rc1 in ubuntu 9.04, and would like to know how to record tv shows on a scheduled basis. I can record tv on the channel it is currently on, but would like to schedule recordings. The release notes say this is possible. Thanks.

This is not timeshifting!

Anyway, use VLM

VLM works with older versions too.

OK, I'm back. I can watch TV just fine with vlc, and can record what I'm watching with a push of a button. However, I still would like to schedule recordings with vlc. I looked at VLM, and there are so many options it makes my head spin. I have looked at the documentation and it does not really help much.

I found an example of a command that schedules recordings using telnet:

Code: Select all

# We're creating a broadcast (live streaming/recording) new TF1_fichier broadcast # The input and all its options setup TF1_fichier input pvr:/dev/video0 setup TF1_fichier option norm=secam setup TF1_fichier option size=720x576 setup TF1_fichier option frequency=519250 setup TF1_fichier option bitrate=5000000 setup TF1_fichier option maxbitrate=8000000 setup TF1_fichier option cr-average 1000 # This looks ok :D setup TF1_fichier output #std{access=file,mux=ts,dst=/home/davidb/TF1_fichier.mpg} setup TF1_fichier enabled # Don't forget to tell it to play control TF1_fichier play
I also found this one:

Code: Select all

new record broadcast enabled input http://88.191.49.63:443 output #std{access=file,mux=ts,dst=/home/user/recording_2007-05-25.mp3} new start schedule enabled date 2007/05/25-11:00:00 append control record play new end schedule enabled date 2007/05/25-12:00:00 append control record stop

Could someone help me change this to something I can use? I have a PVR tv card, and have a NTSC cable signal. Thank you very much.
