vlc "start minimized" broken in vlc-git

Compiled a few vlc versions from git lately. Didn't meet much problems but noticed that from may 7th. 2009 on the option to start vlc with only a taskbar icon doesn't work anymore. Enabled or not, the interface always pops up. I'm using the qt interface.
My distro is debian squeeze/sid, 32 bit version.
