dvd playback

Hi
I have a problem with dvd play back, it wont work period.
vlc keeps giving the error :vlc is unable to open the mrl,dvdsimple:///dev/scd0. check log for details.
All my dvd,s work fine in windows vlc.
any help with this one please.
op sys is ubuntu juanty.

Exactly said log might be interesting.

Start vlc with
vlc -vvv

and give the respective outputs.
