Problem with ( DVD PLAYBACK ) Little help please!!!

Here is the deal. I am building vlc-0.9.8a for YDL PPC, I have a pretty successful build so far however I have a couple hick-ups. I am hoping someone here may be able to help me find a resolution to this problem.

I am having a problem with dvd playback, Everything else is pretty smooth aside from trouble getting vlc to build with quicktime support. I have an rpm built and installed the plugin works great, I get good playback of most formats with no errors or problems. When I try to play a dvd the menu loads fine sound is also good. Upon launching the dvd it suddenly goes bad. The video starts to load but drops frame after frame after frame. Sound is also broken at that point. I can scroll through the dvd a little bit and it kinda starts to load again. Then it freezes up.

VLC-0.8.6c for fedora core 6 works great dvd playback is smooth, the main reason for wanting to update is because the mozilla-vlc plugin for vlc 0.8.6 does not work correctly and seemingly neither does streams. The new version has much better over-all streaming support. That is all working with my current build, just need to figure out a solution for dvd playback and if possible how to get quicktime support. I will go into more detail on the quicktime trouble if someone is willing to help, My main concern is dvd playback though.

I set the verbosity to 2 in messages, and grabbed this. Thanks for any help or support you may be able to offer.

I had the same problem with earlier VLC 0.9.x builds for Slackware. A DVD would play for a few seconds and then the image would freeze. Increasing vlc's buffer size would only make the movie play as many seconds extra as there was in the buffer and then it would still freeze. The messages in the console looked very similar to yours - the problems would start with "PTS is out of range (-xxxxx), dropping buffer" and "audio output is starving (xxxx), playing silence" messages.

At some point, this behaviour disappeared. I have no idea if this was caused by changes in the VLC code (I am building GIT code snapshots for a while now) or by updates in the supporting libraries.

In http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/vlc/build/ you will find all tarballs I am using for my build - perhaps you should compare them to the versions you are using.

On another note, I compiled VLC-1.0.0 and it works fine for dvd's but I'm getting issue's with scaling. Always something :-|

Yeah libmpeg2 is enabled, I also tried with no DVD menu's it would load just like it did with DVD menu enabled. Only thing is it would freeze soon as it loaded the video I would see the picture and then it froze. With the DVD menu enabled I get perfect DVD menu function sound works I can select scene and all that but soon as I attempt to play the video it does the same thing.

I built VLC-1.0.0 rpm and installed it, Now I can get it to play DVD's perfect with no DVD menu enabled but it's is giving me trouble with scaling now. For example I can set it to force aspect ratio 16:10 and it will load the dvd or video in fullscreen and play nicely. But when I try to exit it the screen goes black and I have to manually close the window by terminating the process.

The scaling issue is with any video including the video's loaded with Mozilla-vlc plugin. I built it with swscale enabled and imgresample disabled just like any previous build. None of which had any scaling issue's.

Any Idea's, Thanks for the support and sorry for the somewhat grumpy post previously. :D I will be happy to get either version working correctly. VLC-0.9.8a or VLC-1.0.0.

No... I have the same problems: DVD playback issues with 0.9.x releases and no software scaling in 1.0.0-git

No way to merge the working parts together? Possibly add the software scaling from the 0.9.x to the 1.0.0 git? I am not sure if it's a possible work around or not. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Anyone know if this is possible? Or is this scaling issue going to be fixed in the 1.0.0 git before its released?
