i am using VLC 0.9.2 under ubuntu and it is very good in playing alomost formats ;
but i have a problem with full screen when i run an avi file and choose to run it in full screen i get the full screen all black and part of it (small) have the video so this problem is not good ;
i hope the problem have a solution ;

have had today the same issue, try playing around with the TV Ratio control.

E.g. set the Ratio to 4:3 or 16:9 this will fix it for me .
