compiling VLC on fedora 9

Hi all
I am using Fedora 9 i386.
i have downloaded the vlc source from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-sources.html
I wish to save time by using contrib packages.
from where can i install all the contrib packages to be able to compile VLC for my system.
how do i install the contrib packages.

1) you should use the vlc packages provided by your distro

2) if you really want to build, get the libraries from your distro
