output date isn't PTS date, requesting resampling

installed a new bsd box, that i am slowly setting up as a media laptop. hardware is an ibm thinkpad t42.

installed latest vlc from ports 0.8.6e and having a little problem:

no matter what the input: local file, samba share, nfs share, [100mb lan] or internet stream, i get stutters in the tunes at random intervals [anywhere from 30 sec to 2 min apart]. when the stutters occur, in the logs i see:

main warning: output date isn't PTS date, requesting resampling (75378)
main warning: buffer is 45692 late, triggering upsampling
main warning: output date isn't PTS date, requesting resampling (54580)
main warning: timing screwed, stopping resampling
main warning: buffer is 100251 late, triggering upsampling

i've tried changing the buffers all the way up to 15 seconds, though why a buffer would be late [or even needed] on a locally played file is a total mystery to me.

i'm not sure whether this can be resolved with a settings change, or whether a patch will be needed. can anyone shed any light on this?

Looks more like a problem with the audio output (crappy sound card driver or crappy VLC OSS plugin) to me. Not sure though.

Experiencing the same problem, but I don't think this has anything to do with drivers. In my case, alsa is used and other players (rhytmbox, xmms, mplayer) seem to work fine.
