Video tearing up, Ubuntu 64 bit, Nvidia 8500gt

I also would like to report tearing when playing video. So frames get desynchronized, but this is general problem. It might have something to do with thread timing and 64 bit kernel. It doesn't happen too often. But happens also with lower quality videos.
I have already discussed this topic in Ubuntu forums, and they suspect problem isn't directly related to VLC.
Ubuntu 64 bit 7.10, Nvidia 7600GT, Xvideo, vblank sync enabled, VLC 0.8.6c (64 bit)
Update:
This seems to help: nvidia-settings --load-config-only
I didn't know that I need to run that command after very X restart.

Actually this isn't solved yet.
It seems that even that sync is enabled it fails from time to time. Let's say that it's wrong for 2-5 seconds for every minute.
It seems like sync offset would be off. I mean that the frame change place on screen isn't random. It moves up'n'down slowly and then disappears. Like there would be some delay between trigger and actual buffer flip.
Does anyone else have this problem with Ubuntu 64 bit & VLC using NVidia card?
HW is also updated. Now Q6600, 2GB, Nvidia 8500gt. Same problem still exists.
I can live with this problem. But it looks annoying because I got everything else working perfectly. Except this small issue.

Hi,
I have the same issue with an nvidia 6200 on ubuntu 64 bit. I'm going out to an LCD display.
Have you had any resolution to this? I've actually noticed some VERY subtle tearing on the desktop as well, at first i was wondering it might have to do with getting my v-sync correct with the monitor, but now im not so sure.
I read a thread somewhere that an older driver might fix this... ive heard people complaining of some tearing in windows and that going back to version "81.98 works great displaying videos & DVD"
have you tried an older driver yet?
I can verify disabling glx does nothing. - adding very specific modelines for my lcd did nothing either.

Hi,
I have the same issue with an nvidia 6200 on ubuntu 64 bit. I'm going out to an LCD display.
I have exactly same problem with tv (display 2) and LCD (display 1) and resolutions 1600x1200 and 800x600. And with VLC and Flash. So that is why I think that it's clearly not VLC's fault.
If I drop v-sync, then tearing is continuous and "random" in vertical position. If I enable v-sync there is problem that I described earlier in this thread.
have you tried an older driver yet?
Nope. It's not to bad. I'm used to it. But it's still annoyance.

Just reporting that I updated to Jaunty and no change, Nvidia driver 180.44 and VLC 0.9.4 and still tearing on secondary screen is major issue. (Ok it depends if it's a problem or not, you'll get used to it.) But it's bit annoying still when you have invested thousands of euros on hardware and software doesn't work correctly.
