Live DV capture using raw1394

Postby meinnit » 07 Aug 2007 19:57

Hi does anyone know if you can use the gui to set the capture device if the capture device is a firewire source? In my case is a canopus advc100. kino uses /dev/raw1394 with no problems. Does it have to be done on the command line. in the gui tabs i can see "v4l" and "dvb".
thanks
rob

VLC for linux has a raw1394 input. Searching this forum should give you command line examples. (I don't remember them)

Which Os do you have ?
If you have kernel that uses the new juju firewire (for example Fedora 7 ) this may lead to problems since libdc1394-2 is not supported whith current vlc...

hey thanks for the replies - I am using suse 10.2 and kernel 2.6. it seems the main message i get in the debug is "no suitable access module for /dev/raw1394" or dv1394-0 or dv/rawdv:///dev/raw1394. Tried a few possibilities. determined not to give up though!!!
so far the kernel is standard and i can see in lsmod...
video1394
dv1394
raw1394
ohci1394
ieee1394

I did have a few problems when trying to compile vlc i used --enable-dv but had problems with wxwidgets and skins2. Is there a way to check that the --enable-dv worked?

is it me??? :D
thanks

ok looks like I'm sorted with this one now thank you. I think it was the way i compiled some of the stuff before vlc - not sure libdc1394 was right , and yes it was libdc1394-2. so re compiled from scratch and now vlc will display the contents of raw1394. what it wont do is stream the video over http! audio is fine but no video. Still thats gonna be another thread maybe. Thanks for your help
