Hi,
I am using openSUSE 10.2. I have tried installing VLC from both the packman repository as well as the repository mentioned in the videolan website.

Whenever I try to open VLC it won't open, the cursor will show some activity with the VLC icon and then just stops.

Please let me know how to get VLC to work.

Hi,

I can not talk for anything from the PM repository, as it's 'out of our control'. The one from our site is known to work for many peaople, so let's find what's different for you.

Can you try starting vlc from the terminal?

best would be to start it with

Code: Select all

vlc -vvv
and paste all the output here; this might be the fastest way to find an issue.

VLC is running with problems now

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply. After running the ZEN software updater, vlc is finally working.
:D

However it still won't play .mpeg, .vob and .dat files? Could you help me with that as well?

VLC is playing everything now

Ok, I managed to solve that problem as well by installing libmpeg2 from your repository. Got the answer from your replies to one of the other posts.. thanks a ton again!
