No video/audio

Run vlc 0.8.5, and pop-up the vlc window without menu bar(Files, View, Settings etc). Tried to play MPEG bit stream, couldn't see anything but the bit stream was played.
Typed /usr/bin/vlc, and got the error message as below:
VLC media player 0.8.5 Janus
[00000287] main dialogs provider error: no dialogs provider module matched "any"[00000284] skins2 interface error: no suitable dialogs provider found (hint: compile the wxWidgets plugin, and make sure it is loaded properly)

Anybody might tell me what's wrong with the player. Thx
