Streaming in SuSE 10.2

I cant get streaming to work , even after reading various tutorials etc.
I open any video file (DVD whatever) using the wizard and send to another PC using its IPaddress and port 1234, like 172.28.0.9:1234, and at the other end I try to open network stream.
Nothing happens!
It makes no difference between HTTP or UDP. exactly the same
BTW, the connection between the two PCs is via a DSL router. I did remember to increase the TTL to more than 1. I can ping the PCs from eachother
any ideas?
thanks
