Recording to a log file in verbose mode.

Hello there gents!
Using VLC 0.8.6 in Ubuntu 6.10. Basically, I'm doing allot of transcoding and streaming via the command line and I am getting a few problems but before I can come to you chaps for help, I just need to record what exactly VLC is doing first.
Is there a way of recording to a log file when in verbose mode (if it is not doing this already). If so, how do I go about doing that?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I'm sorry but I just realised what it was --file-logging! I've got what I need and I shall proceed as planned!
