.avi and the horizontal navigation bar

Hello,
I use vlc to watch personal videos located on a lan FTP server.
The problem is when I watch an AVI video because there is no navigation bar (I mean the horizontal bar to move ). On windows it says that the videos are broken.
I haven't this probleme with OGM videos.

Does someone now how to fix this problem?

ps: I use Linux but the problem is the same on windows.
