In Debian 'Sarge' the compiler of 'wxX11' breaks with this message
checking for X... no
configure: error: X11 not found, please use --x-includes and/or --x-libraries options (see config.log for details)
What kind of X11 the system is looking for? '--x-libraries=/usr/X11R6/lib' fails. javascript:emoticon('
