I've installed the latest VLC RPM from Packman (vlc-0.8.6-0.pm.1.x86_64.rpm) on my SUSE 10.0 AMD64 system. I also have the most recent updates of packages such as xvid (and, if it matters, ffmpeg) installed. I can play mpeg2 files okay with VLC, but when I try xvid or divx mpeg4 files, I get no video playback, only audio. For example, when I select an avi file that's in xvid format:
[00000296] main demuxer debug: using demux2 module "avi"
[00000285] main input debug: looking for a subtitle file in /var/video/
[00000298] main decoder debug: looking for decoder module: 23 candidates
[00000298] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `XVID'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
[00000298] main decoder debug: killing decoder fourcc `XVID', 0 PES in FIFO
[00000338] main decoder debug: looking for decoder module: 23 candidates
[00000338] main decoder debug: using decoder module "mpeg_audio"
[00000338] main decoder debug: thread 1089247584 (decoder) created at priority 0 (input/decoder.c:159)
These file types should be supported, no? The files play okay with mplayer, but I need the server capabilities of VLC, for use with my MediaMVP box and MVPMC. Any suggestions as to where to go from here?
TIA,
Barry
