CPU load increases constantly

Hi,

I'm running VLC 0.8.5 on Slackware 10.2, on a P3 1266Mhz machine. It acts as a relay machine only, and VLC connects to another machine running also VLC, which does the actual encoding, to get the stream.
The problem on the linux machine is that after about 2-3 hours the cpu load goes as high as 25%. In the first 1-2 hours VLC uses less then 0.5% cpu, which is normal.

VLC is compiled from source.

What can I do? Please tell me any info you would need and I'll provide it.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best regards,
Dj Lyon

have you tried using recent versions of VLC's dependencies ? trying to use VLC 0.8.6 might do the trick as well, but both suggestions are a shot into the blue.
if you only relay a stream on your machine, then maybe alternative software, such as icecast, might do the trick for you as well.

I have same issue just like yours,
I compile VLC source code and port to a ARM platform , playing a mp3 repeatedly , after 15 hours , it CPU consumption increases from 7% to 10 %,
After 63 hours playing , it CPU consumption increases to 30%!! (I tried VLC 0.85 and VLC0.86)
