Play over LAN without Downloading First

Postby rachus » 03 Sep 2006 18:52

I have Windows box with various media (i.e. mpeg, avi, mp3, etc.). I can open it on another windows box on the LAN using virutually any media player (Zoom Player preferred), ...without having to download it first and without having to set up the sever as a streaming server. I just installed SuSE 10.1 on another box on the LAN but when I try to open a file on the Windows server box, (using SMB to browse to it), Linux wants to download it first. Is there any simple solution to just playing the file without having to download it and/or having to set up the server as a streaming server?

Thanks.

Hi,
how do you try to open your files ? I guess it will work if you mount your Windows share with smbfs.

Yes that fixed it. Thanks very much.
