Videolan freeze, restart and freeze ...

Postby The Jedi » 19 Jun 2006 22:42

Hello,

thanks for this wonderful software I can use with Windows and Linux. It's really what software should be : efficient.
However, I have a slight problem under Linux (Fedora Core 5) because sometimes, VLC freeze (and only VLC) : image stops so does the sound. And 2/3 seconds later, everything come back... as it was paused and restarted (but I don't press the pause button of course).

I watched the message dial which displays that :
(...)main warning: late picture skipped (14100565)
main warning: late picture skipped (14196576)
main warning: late picture skipped (14292903)

I have this problem with DVD and avi files (and probably others). In a 2 hours movie, I have that arround each 30 minutes but it could be less or more.

I have an AMD 3200+ CPU, 512MB DDR Dual Channel and a GeForce 5700 Ultra videocard and I don't remember I had those problems under windows or whatever, under Linux some times ago.

Thanks for your help ... if you can help me ;-)

Slightly unrelated, but I've noticed that VLC freezes/stops streaming/playing when moving it around. I'm using fluxbox as my window manager, and this is fairly odd behavior considering I'm using nearly 0 memory.

It's nothing critical I realize, but is there a reason for this happening?

P.S. I love my 'new cone' status. :-D

Hm i don't think it is related with moving the window : it is fullscreen and it happens with DVD (movies), AVI (movies and short episodes [~20min]) and I never move the window so.
