libdvdcss issue on SuSE 10.0 X86_64

Postby inkedpenguin » 05 Mar 2006 01:56

Hello,

I've been able to download the relevant rpm packages and vlc will play an unencrypted DVD, but I get the following error when I try to get it to play an encrypted DVD:
libdvdnav:Using dvdnav version 0.1.10 from http://dvd.sf.net
libdvdread:Encrypted DVD support unavailable.
libdvdnav:DVD Title: <Some DVD Title>
libdvdnav:DVD Serial Number:<alphanumeric string>

It seems that VLC knows there's a DVD there, and even how to play it, but it cannot locate libdvdcss, and I've been unable to locate any config files which even remotely address the issue.':?' I've tried removing and installing all the rpm files, then reinstalling starting with the library files and ending with VLC. I've even tried building from source with no success. I'd greatly appreciate any help in getting VLC to recognize libdvdcss.:)

Hi,
I guess you at least installed libdvdcss ? ;)
When you open an encrypted DVD, libdvdread tries to load the shared library "libdvdcss.so.2", which must be installed in the standard location of shared libraries (i.e /lib, /usr/lib, /lib64, ..., or a directory listed in /etc/ld.so.conf or in your $LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable)
