VLC does not start on a Debian bookworm

I have just installed Debian bookworm Gnome on AMD Ryzen™ 5 2600 × 12, 8.0 GiB, graphics card is listed as:
NVIDIA Corporation GK208B [GeForce GT 710]
Then I installed snap VLC. However, when I launch VLC from Gnome, it does not show up and ps ax lists:

3698 ? S 0:00 /bin/bash /snap/vlc/3777/bin/vlc-snap-wrapper.sh

after a while, with no other attemp to launch:

3698 ? S 0:00 /bin/bash /snap/vlc/3777/bin/vlc-snap-wrapper.sh
3900 ? S 0:00 /bin/bash /snap/vlc/3777/bin/vlc-snap-wrapper.sh

Launching vlc -v from command line hangs forever with no feeedback.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled snapd and vlc several times, to no avail.
However, following the same procedure I have a working VLC on two other Debian bookworm running on an old Lenovo portable and on a more recent HP Probook.

I am about to reinstall bookworm from scratch, but I don't think it will make any difference, only cleanup any leftovers. I'd be grateful for advice, I could even install a different GUI, if it were likely to make any difference.
Thanks!
Andrew

I reinstalled Debian bookworm, VLC still doesn't show up when launched but this time I also installed KDE (Plasma on X11) where it works just fine. Snap VLC is currently the only application that I know of that can work as rtsp client on Debian.

VLC 3 needs X11. Maybe Xwayland doesn't work properly in your setup
