I am using Debian 12 and when I try to open a valid MOV file VLC does closes down. The logs show the following informaiton

Debian kernel: vlc[125651]: segfault at 20 ip 00007f50a2b4f3a0 sp 00007f50cbffd608 error 4 in iHD_drv_video.so[7f50a2b06000+784000] likely on CPU 7 (core 3, socket 0)
Nov 05 16:51:45 Debian kernel: Code: 00 00 00 00 00 0f 1f 44 00 00 48 8b 47 20 ff 60 30 66 0f 1f 84 00 00 00 00 00 48 8b 47 20 ff 60 38 66 0f 1f 84 00 00 00 00 00 <48> 8b 47 20 ff 60 40 66 0f 1f 84 00 00 00 00 00 ff 67 48 66 2e 0f

This occurs after removing and reinstalling VLc on Debian. Why does it not run Mov files?

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of your original problematic file to WeTransfer.com or Disroot.org and then post the link to the file here.

The crash seems to lie inside your Intel display drivers, so no wonder reinstalling VLC does nothing.

You'll probably have to turn hardware acceleration off until you find non-broken drivers.

No. I am able to run this MOV file in another video app as well as my browser Firefox.

VLC is able to play other MOV videos.
Information on the MOV file
AO: [pulse] 44100Hz stereo 2ch float
VO: [gpu] 1280x800 yuv420p
size225.6 MB

VLC crashes when I attempt to open the file. this is all the log produces

If iHD_drv_video.so is not your Intel display driver, then what is it supposed to be, hmm?
