ubunto VLC rtsp

I am trying to open a rtsp stream to view the video stream from one of my security camera's and get the following error.

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'rtsp://bobster316:joebloggs@192.168.1.223/live'. Check the log for details.

I am relatively new to ubuntu, appreciate some guidance on how to troubleshoot.

Ubuntu has purposedly disabled RTSP support in their VLC package. There is nothing to troubleshoot.

You need to use the snap or recompile

On Mint 21.1 (which is derived from Ubuntu), I get the same error, with VLC 3.0.16 installed, whereas VLC 3.0.9.2 on my older Mint installation works. Thus suggests that something changed in VLC.

I had this issue too

On MINT (21.2) - Use the VLC 3.0.18 from flatpack (Software manager) , the one with the little "Flathub" cube icon
Works for me.

But why the .... Did they disable RTSP ???
Security issues or just "because they can" ??

Edit: Or the same Copyright issue as i saw , caused Debian to remove rtsp support ?
