I have mx-linux 21-3 and installed VLC 3.0.18 through flatpak and when I try to play the link https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/ ... html?n=250 VLC does nothing.

I know VLC has problems with https and youtube does this apply to all Https sites? Why does it no play?

I try to play the link https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/ ... html?n=250 VLC does nothing.

There is no media file on this page, no video nor audio so nothing VLC could play.

Well, VLC is not a browser but a media player.
And there is no media on your page. Plus VLC can't parse any available page on the web.

VLC used to play web site information. Can VLC be made to play web sites like http or https ?

VLC never played websites. And your question doesn't make any sense.

VLC did play web sites like Youtube. As the VLC menu demonstrates.

Open Media, network stream, select the network tab and below it shows http://www.example.com/stream.avi
clearly demonstrating that VLC is capable of playing web content.

An AVI file is a video, not a website. You've just demonstrated that VLC supports HTTP, not HTML.

The example i provided is from VLC itself!! So you are saying VLC in correctly placed an example in its own application. Take a look at the pictures that VLC provides form the web site I already provided https://www.reddit.com/r/VLC/comments/1 ... b_content/

I am talking about playing a HTTPS file and you said it never played https which is incorrect.

Here is an example that VLC could play HTTPS from VLC own forum.

It should be obvious but the example is but an example. Example.com doesn't actually exist; it's reserved for writing examples. Of course it can't be played.

VLC supports the sites which can be seen in the \VLC\lua\playlist folder.
And, of course, direct URLs to media files.
Nothing else,full stop.

Give an example of a direct URL to media files.

Yours:
http://www.example.com/stream.avi

That's a media file, not a web site nor an HTML page.

We don't owe you a proof of anything, and besides, there are already countless examples of playable HTTP URL on other threads of these fora.

You're the one making false allegations about VLC, without proof here.

It appears that VLC on Linux possible all version has now prevented playing https videos. A post demonstrates that it was possible to play https videos from Youtube but it no longer works on 3.0.1.8. See below.

HTTPS works fine on Linux. VLC 3.0.18 from Debian works fine.

The Flatpak is unofficial so I can't speak for it. Contact the Flatpak maintainer, not the official VideoLAN forum.
