Suggestions on how to install VLC 3.0.17 or newer

The VLC version that comes from apt is 3.0.16, which doesn't do Chromecast streaming/broadcasting/rendering. The 3.0.17 SNAP-ed version cannot be made to do blu-ray playback. Compiling 3.0.17 from SC doesn't work for me. The question is then, how can I install a 3.0.17 or newer on my Ubuntu computer? Any suggestions?
