I have tryed to reach VLC via my android phone:
URL:
http://<PC IP Address>:8080
Firefox browser just timed out after about 1 minute while VLC played a video
I can get the VLC web interface on the same PC, and it does display the current filename in VLC playing, but none of the web controls
do anything

Well then it's a network or firewall problem.

If you can connect to the web server locally, then VLC works fine. And if you can't connect to it from the phone, then it's probably no fault of the remote control application. So that leaves your setup. I don't think we can help here.

"If you can connect to the web server locally, then VLC works fine."

"And if you can't connect to it from the phone, then it's probably no fault of the remote control application. So that leaves your setup. I don't think we can help here."
Umm, i thought you were the "head developer" of VLC, am i right or not ?
As for my setup - you have not asked me anything about it - so why do you think you cant help ?
I mean, if you cant help with a basic setup issue, whats the point of having this forum then ?
If you require LOGS specify them and i will provide them
