Linux VLC 3.0.9.2 won't minimize to tray

Minimizing VLC 3.0.9.2 Vetinari in Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.0 and Qt5 does not work. The VLC Qt Main control is configured to minimize to the system tray, but it just minimizes to the panel. What am I doing wrong?

you need to click on the tray icon for it to minimize.

Yes, I know that, but there is no tray icon. That is the problem.

Does it works for other applications (not cinnamon applets, for instance with pidgin)
I'm not familiar with cinnamon.

@chubinou Yes, it works for cinnamon applets and thanks for the link to github/cinnamon. My problem seems to be the same.
