VLC 4.0.0 always opens video in separate window?

Hi all!
Trying the VLC 4.0.0 dev build on my Linux Mint 20 laptop, but every time I play a video, the video opens in a separate window to the VLC interface....even though I have "Integrate video in interface' turned on in the Preferences...?
Any ideas how to fix this?
