VLC player on Ubuntu-MATE unable to play video from .mkv file

Hi,

In the .mkv file I have, VLCplayer reports the following codec:
video: mpeg4-avc(part 10)
audio: opus encoding

When I play this .mkv file, VLCplayer does start to playback the audio channel, but stays with a black window for the video channel. What might be wrong ? I am using 3.0.9.2 on Ubuntu MATE 20.04 latest (64-bit). Host is an i5-8400, and IGPU is in use.

cheers.

If you're using VLC 3.0.x and have video issues.
Try:

  1. Preferences -> Input/Codecs -> Disable hw decoding
  2. If you are a Windows user, Preferences -> Video -> Change from direct3d11 to direct3d9
If any solution works, please tell us which one solved your case, Please also quote your video driver name and version.

Had already tried #1 but that didn't seem to help. I cannot try #2 as I am on Linux. Anything else ?
