libvlc marquee metadata access

So I have seen a few posts about this, but no clear answer. Also, there are people trying to implement this feature and no one seems to be helping them. Is it possible to access the file metadata for the marquee using libvlc in 2.x onwards? If not, then why was it removed? That seems like a useful feature. As far as I can tell from this page, from versions 0.9.0 to 1.1.13, you were able to add metadata directly to the marquee. But now you can't. Anyone know why?
