Have a 2019 Samsung 4K Smart TV that would like to install VLC Media Player.

Checked Tizen wiki and found out that Tizen is a type of Linux.

Did not see a separate Tizen sub forum so post here.

Hope someone can tell me how Install VLC Media Player for Tizen OS TV from a USB Drive?

Thanks

Support for Tizen was dropped due to lack of interest.

How can we start a campaign?

I'm sure there's a lot of people interested in VLC for Tizen (modern Samsung Smart TV's and so on...)

Would you consider to release an updated version to the Samsung's Tizen store?

If there are a lot of people interested, then they are welcome to resurrect the port... so far the port is still dead, at least within VideoLAN.

I have not seen any merge requests regarding Tizen since my previous comment more than a year ago, so I assume nobody is interested in doing that.

I would also kindly ask VLC developers to do VLC Player for Samsung Smart Tizen TV's.... I have 5 Samsung Tizen TV's at home and whole my family has them and we are all VLC users on our computers, Android Samsung phones, Samsung tablets...
my soon ask me a few times already .. dad why I can ot have the same player on my TV (He has Samsung Smar tizenTV) ....
so because of that I realy kindly ask you VLC Deveopers to do also for us Samsung TV Smart Tizen users VLC Player.... Pleaseee

The problem is that people are not so wild spreed and know your forum ...if they do you would have a lot of requests for Samsung Smart TV Tizen VLC Pleayer... I know that because I work in IT (we sell all those brands ) and a lot of people are smile which have Sony Philips , ... others Android brands on TV's...

al they could use it .... exept Samsung users... :(

best regards and a lot of health to alll

Hello,
What can we do to get the Tizen OS version of VLC going again? I don't understand WHY it would have EVER been discontinued to being with as VLC is an modern marvel of Software IMO. The built in Samsung media browser can barely play MP4's properly so I REALLY NEED SOMETHING. I would just assume use the BEST PRODUCT MADE for media. Even if you charged for it, it would be worth it and I would be first in line to buy it.
Samsung as a T O N of Smart TV's out there running Tizen along with other TV's as well if I understand correctly.

I am a Web Developer and learning C and C++ I am not sure what Language VLC is written in but even if you could give me some instructions on how to compile it or port it so I could use it on my TV that would even be great. I assume you guys would need to do it though so it could be put into the APP store for Tizen.

How can we get this started again?

It stopped because nobody wanted to work at it on their free time, nor pay someone else to do so. Conversely, to get the Tizen port started again, work at it, or pay someone to work at it.

I fully agree with Milella, a lot of people would even pay for a VLC version for Samsung. I understand that everything, specially time, has a price.
But it's a shame that I can't even play my AVI files on a tv bougth just a few months ago.
Could you let us know if, at least, there is any old version of VLC that I could try on my Samsung Smart TV?
I guess even that would be better than the current Samsung media browser.

Thanx!!

To my knowledge no official Tizen port ever reached a reasonable level of functionality, usability and stability.

It's not going to happen by asking other people to do it. It's going to happen by actually doing it.

Hi there,
Hello everyone just joined the forum. Got same problem .
Been using VLC for years and just got a new Samsung Qe55qn700at used for a month then had to be repaired wow and their installed player is horrible and won't play with subtitles even though they are there and there is no options like VLC to load.
I think many people would love to have VLC on Samsung store, I would!!! Samsung Qe55qn700at won't let me see the file either on a USB stick. They say that the is ExFat, FAT and NTFS but you cannot see your files ( just empty folders ). By the looks of the thread, no one knows how to do this. Just a suggestion as I am new to Samsung TV only had Phones. Could try Tizen studio to packaged and build VLC from the APK version to TPK as test build. If it's still free to do so without infringement.
Oh the joy!!
OMG just put emojis in post and got blown up. Quick quick edit oops

Nobody challenges that VLC on Tizen would be useful. The problem is purely lack of volunteer developers, or a deep-pocketed sponsor to fund professional developers.

This is most likely not what you want to read but adding more posts on this forum begging for a Tizen port will not make either of these things happen. They are a waste of your time. They simply don't reach the right audience here.

Like I don't know. Start a project to work at the port yourself, or initiate a crowdfunded campaign, or try to publicly shame Samsung into sponsoring it, or whatever.

There is a project started, it's a question of getting more support for it to continue.

Yes and no. That project ended 8 years ago with no usable release, and the author left several years ago. So while it did start, it also did end.
